Magic Members is a premium WordPress plugin that allows you to have different membership access to different readers. It’s easy to set up and can be installed into a completely new site, or integrated into an existing one.

Why would you use Magic Members?

Well, there are various ways you can earn money via a blog. For example, you can integrate a shopping cart and start selling items online. Or you can receive revenue from advertisements and sponsorships. Nevertheless, an aspect that’s least explored is to create a membership site.

Magic Members is a powerful tool that turns your average WordPress site into one where you can start charging for premium content or downloads. You have the ability to set up unlimited membership levels and control what different members are able to access.

Installing Magic Members

Usually setting up a membership-based site can be very overwhelming and involves lots of coding. However, with Magic Members, everything is a breeze to set up. After you purchase the latest version of Magic Members, you’re able to download a zipped file. Simply go into your WordPress dashboard and head to: Plugins > Add New > Upload

Browse and upload the zipped Magic Members files, click on Activate Plugin and you’re done! This seamless installation will give everything you need, including an added menu, extra widgets and pages.

Organizing Members

Setting up and managing members is also very straight forward. Going into the Magic Membersmenu gives you various options you can tinker around with. However, I found everythingpretty much out of the box set up for you already. Basically, all you need to do first is to define the members and figure out the subscription packages.

If you go to: Magic Members > Members > Subscription Options

You will find that by default, there are three different subscription packages and four membership types. However, you can create as many packages and membership types as you like.

You might want to have Bronze, Silver and Gold membership subscriptions. To do this, simply create a new member type, take Gold Member for example. Then, expand the Member Package, scroll down, and click on Add New Package. Under Settings, make sure you select Gold Member for Membership Type. In the Basic Setting, you

can determine what kind of subscription the membership type is. For example, the subscription period, cost, billing, trial and renewal.

You can also create unlimited coupons. Coupons are a great way to entice and attract readers to sign up for a subscription.

Payment Settings

To receive money from the subscriptions, you will have to fill in your PayPal details here: Magic Members > Payment Settings > PayPal Standard

Then, click on the next tab labeled Payment Modules. Magic Members offers a very comprehensive range of payment options for your subscribers. However, bombarding your readers with all these payment options can be a bit too much, so simply click to disable the ones you don’t need.

Posting Paid Content

When you click on create new Post or Page, a Magic Members menu would now appear on the side bar. Here you will be able to select which membership types have access to this content. Keep in mind that the content that don’t appear within the tags will be displayed freely for anyone to view.

Yup, it’s that easy.

To ensure your readers have a place to sign up and login membership, make sure you include the Magic Members Register and Login widget or Page.

You can also have paid downloads by going to: Magic Members > Content Control > Download

Simple upload the content, assign it to a page or post and add the appropriate tags to the post.

Manage Your Members

It’s simple and easy to manage all your members in the back end. By going to: Magic Members > Members

You can see all your registered members and even upgrade their membership type or extend their membership.

Magic Members Pricing

Magic Members offers three different pricing plans. The basic, Single plan, is great if you have one blog and want to get started on a membership site. If you have more than one site, it would be cheaper to select the 3 Users or Unlimited plan. All plans come with:

  • Quick and easy installation
  • Access to customer service support
  • Access to training videos
  • Detailed support guides
  • Unlimited upgrades for a year

If you’re worried about if Magic Members will work for you, then you can try the plugin for 30 days risk-free. If you are not satisfied with the plugin for any reason within 30 days, then Magic Members will provide you with a full refund, no questions asked.

Bottom Line

I really liked Magic Members simply for the ease of setup and how everything just works out of the box. I’ve used other paid subscription plugins for WordPress before but nothing as comprehensive or easy as Magic Members.

This is just a short introduction to Magic Members and obviously there are a lot more features and options you can have. To test it out yourself, head to the Magic Members demo page.
