WordPress 3.0 comes with the ability to create and manage a network of sites from a single location. There are many great plugins for WordPress multisite installation. In this article i am going to write about 10 plugins i personally like and use on WordPress multisite installation. These plugins will help you define user roles, manage themes and plugins, search across network, map domain, control traffic and much more.

User Role Editor

With User Role Editor WordPress plugin you can change user role (except Administrator) capabilities easy, with a few clicks. Just turn on check boxes of capabilities you wish to add to the selected role and click “Update” button to save your changes. That’s done. Add new roles and customize its capabilities according to your needs, from scratch of as a copy of other existing role.

Multisite Robots.txt Manager

A Multisite Network Robots.txt Manager quickly manage all network websites robots.txt files directly within the network admin.

DBC Backup 2

DBC Backup 2 can give you the confidence that your WordPress database is backed-up and securely stored on your server. You select when and where your backup will be generated. The backup file is saved to directory on your web server which for many people is free storage and more reliable then saving to your home computer.

Multisite User Management

This plugin allows users of a WordPress MU site or WordPress network to map their blog/site to another domain. It requires manual installation as one file must be copied to wp-content/. When upgrading the plugin, remember to update domain_mapping.php and sunrise.php.

Plugin management for WordPress Multisite that supports the native plugins page and the WPMU DEV Pro Sites plugin! Used on thousands of multisite installs across the web. Previously known as WPMU Plugin Manager, it uses a backend options page to adjust plugin permissions for all the sites in your network.

Multisite Global Search

Easily search through all blogs into your WordPress Multisite by post title, post content or post author. Multisite Global Search doesn’t work with single WordPress installation and it must be activated for all sites using “network activate” in the Administration Panel.

Google Analytics Multisite Async

Google Analytics Multisite Async lets the network admin collect statistics from all sites and it lets the regular site admins collect statistics from their own site. This means that statistics are collected to 2 different Analytics accounts at once, assuming that the site admin have entered an ID of course. It’s the asynchronous version of Analytics. The network admin can choose whether the site admins should be able to collect statistics or not.
