iPower is a company who provides various hosting plans to people all around the world. Starting their web hosting business back in 2001, they have lasted almost a decade in a very competitive industry. However, if you have seen some of our other web hosting reviews, you will understand that being in business for a long time means that you’re good at what you do.

Let’s take a look and reveal what iPower is really made of. In my opinion, it’s about darn time that they had someone who wasn’t biased review them. 😉

Price Value

The plan that I’m going to review is their basic plan and the reason for this is that this will truly tell you what a company is really in the business of doing. Many untrustworthy hosts will limit their features on these small plans in order to up-sell you to a more expensive plan.

Running at $3.95 per month (only if you sign up and pay for 2 years in advance), their price for the smallest plan is what most of our top hosting providers hand out unlimited hosting for. Now, if I was them, I wouldn’t charge $3.95 per month to get less in terms of webhosting, it just wouldn’t feel right by any means.

On top of what I’ve already said, they charge setup fees. Charging for setup on shared hosting hasn’t been done in over a decade. It’s just a way for a web hosting provider to fool you out of more money.

Is it a good deal? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Features

Let’s take a moment and discover the web hosting features that iPower has to offer on their basic web hosting plan.

  • 5 GB Disk Space
  • 250 GB Bandwidth
  • 1 Domain Allowed
  • 1 POP3 Email Account
  • 1 MySQL Database
  • Free Advertising Credits
  • No Free Domain, They Charge $10.95 for That

I’m not even going to talk about how small their disk space and bandwidth allocations are compared to other hosts on here. I will say that they limit the most basic features that don’t cost them a dime to provide in hopes to sell you on a more expensive web hosting plan.

This is starting to really irritate me, simply because I keep running across hosts who are trying to deceive their customers by limited something so basic that should come with web hosting anyways, not to mention that it should be unlimited and not just ok, throw one in, but just one!

Performance

iPower has an architecture which employs mirrors in an effort to prevent any downtime that may occur. Simply put, if one server goes down, that’s not going to bring your website that’s hosted with them down. However, iPower has been known provide slow web hosting, which could be caused by putting too many clients on one server.

With that said, their performance hasn’t really showed us that they have what it takes to be one of our top web hosting providers.

Reliability

iPower doesn’t seem to have any form of uptime guarantee. If they do, it’s not displayed in a way that can be easily accessed by any of their visitors. When I noticed this, I started to dig and see what some others who have used iPower said about reliability.

My findings were that they don’t have the best record for reliability, mainly due to many experiencing multiple spurts of downtime. Therefore, we have to declare iPower as an unreliable web hosting provider.

Support

Evaluating their support could keep me going forever. I tested it out myself just to see what it was made of and give iPower the benefit of the doubt. I tested live chat, but they didn’t know what website I launched their live chat from. Personally, I know their live chat software provides the opportunity for tracking where visitors launch the chat from. To me, it seems like they have their hands too full.

Then, I went ahead and tested out their telephone support. Needless to say, I experienced a long wait, long enough to make me hang up and forget about it.

iPower has some of the worst web hosting support that I have ever seen during my years of reviewing web hosting providers.

Love Factor

iPower truly disgusts me, I mean they really p*ss me off. The reason for this is that they are far from providing people like me and you what they truly need from a web hosting company.
