WordPress is one of the popular and powerful CMS on the internet because it has a wide variety of themes and plugins for almost every need. In this article i have compiled a list of basic and useful plugins for web developer, as a developer you can perform a wide variety of tasks from these plugins easily. Hope you will find them useful.

1.Preserve Code Formatting:

Preserve formatting of code for display by preventing its modification by WordPress and other plugins while retaining original white space and characters. Basically, you can just paste code into <code>, <pre>, and/or other tags you additionally specify and this plugin.

  • Prevent WordPress from HTML-encoding text.
  • Prevent most other plugins from modifying preserved code.
  • Optionally preserve white space (in a variety of methods).
  • Optionally preserve code added in comments.

2.Raw HTML:

Lets you disable automatic formatting like smart quotes and automatic paragraphs, and use raw HTML/JS/CSS code in your posts without WordPress messing it up. The free version only works with the HTML editor. Get the Pro Version if you want to be able to switch between HTML and the Visual editor without WordPress messing up your content.

3.Theme Switch and Preview:

The plugin is great for theme development as you can tweak the template online without breaking stuff for visitors. You can also use it for presentations, to show off various templates. There is a widget and a theme cloud short code to make this easier. This plugin has three basic configurations:

  • Only admin: This is useful for theme developers and to preview themes on live sites.
  • Only with passkey: Send your clients preview links. They won’t need an account on your blog for this to work.
  • Everybody: Theme switching for everybody.

4.User Switching:

This plugin allows you to quickly swap between user accounts in WordPress at the click of a button. You’ll be instantly logged out and logged in as your desired user. This is handy for test environments where you regularly log out and in between different accounts, or for administrators of blogs with multiple accounts who need to switch between them.

  • Instant switching and redirection to the WordPress Dashboard.
  • Instant switching back to the originating account.
  • It’s completely secure (see the “Security” section below).
  • Compatible with WordPress, WordPress Multisite, BuddyPress and WordPress MU.

5.WordPress Console:

This plugin adds a “Console” page to the administrator’s menu which provides a JavaScript-based interactive console that loads the WordPress environment. It allows execution of arbitrary PHP code as well as anything defined by WordPress or activated plugins. This is awesome for plugin developers and people learning PHP and/or the WordPress API.

6.WP Maintenance Mode:

Adds a maintenance-page to your blog that lets visitors know your blog is down for maintenance time. User with rights for theme-options get full access to the blog including the frontend. Activate the plugin and your blog is in maintenance-mode, works and see the frontend, only registered users with enough rights. You can use a date with a countdown for information the visitors or set a value and unit for information. Also you can add urls for exlude of maintenance mode.

7.WordPress Theme Demo Bar:

WordPress Theme Demo Bar is a plugin for WordPress that allows any WordPress theme to be previewed without activating it. A demo bar would be shown on top of page, allow users to preview another theme. The demo bar is customizable at admin panel. More than 1 extra CSS files can be loaded too.

WP Deploy is a plugin designed to solve some of the difficulties experienced by developers working in teams using version control software and multiple stages of deployment (local, development, staging, production etc.) More specifically it allows multiple config files to be added through the admin system and then dynamically switched depending on the URL a user is accessing the site from. In this way, a WordPress installation can be added to an svn repository (or any version control system) and checked out in multiple places that might have needs for differing config files.

9.Better WordPress Google XML Sitemaps:

WordPress sitemap plugin that has support for both site map index and Multi-site websites! You will no longer have to worry about the 50,000 URL limit or the time it takes for a sitemap to be generated. This plugin is fast, consumes much fewer resources and can be extended via your very own modules (yes, no hooks needed!).
