Pagerank is used by search engines to show whether a page is relevant to the search terms that a person put into that search engine. The more times the words appear on a page, the higher the ranking in the search engine, up to a certain point. After that point, the search engine sees the site as spam and it actually loses pagerank.

Whether pagerank matters is an ongoing argument. Some insist that it does. Others say it’s an outdated method of searching that has little to do with the real world. The Google cache date, your return on investment, and conversions are the numbers you should be looking at. Especially your return on investment – is your website making you any money?

Despite the fact that a lot of people are starting to say that pagerank doesn’t matter, it is still seen as important by most people, and it still is important. Pay attention to it along with the other suggested numbers, and you’ll be just fine.
