That’s not an easy question to answer, unfortunately. There are too many variables to say with any kind of certainty whether a person has to have a dedicated server for their business. However, if you have a huge business that’s getting a ton of traffic to its site, you might want to have one. Your customers will get there faster and they won’t get irritated waiting for your site to load, especially if there is a lot of traffic to the other sites on that same server.

If your operations are pretty critical and a customer really needs to be able to get to your site 24/7, dedicated servers are the only way to go. Keep in mind, though, that you’ll have to pay a lot more for a dedicated server than the webhosting that you can get for $20 or so through a lot of the smaller companies. A dedicated server could cost you literally thousands each month, and your business really has to warrant it before it would be worth it.
